The Confidence Level of Remedies function offers you a new way to use only the information that you deem reliable. This function was first launched in RADAR version 8.2 (based on Synthesis 8) and has been updated in RADAR 9 (Synthesis 9.1).
Additions to the repertory are as inevitable as the growth of homeopathy itself. The real issue lies in increasing the quantity of information without compromising a certain standard of quality.
A growing number of homeopaths are questioning the reliability of colleagues who suddenly report hundreds or thousands of additions based on their clinical experience. The challenge is to incorporate these changes without tarnishing the quality of our homeopathic database.
In book format, the only solution is to clearly indicate the source, permitting each one to make his/her own decisions. For those who use the RADAR program, an ingenious new technology allows you to select the level of confidence you wish to work with.
Every remedy in every rubric has received a confidence rating based on a number of different criteria, including:
- number of classical authors who felt the remedy belonged in the rubric
- the quality of the original proving
- the number of contemporary homeopaths that have confirmed that symptom for that remedy
- that correspond to the exact level of confidence that you wish to consider
- that have the minimum level of confidence that you wish to have for the information that you are using
- you can use the default confidence rating settings, or choose your own
The lowest level of confidence indicates a one-time addition from any homeopath. If other homeopaths make the same observation and report the same addition, confidence in this information will increase.
A high confidence rating may appear if the remedy belongs to the original Repertory of Kent, and will increase if more authors, etc., support the information.
The confidence rating is kept separate from the degree of a remedy.
When different authorities confirm that a symptom is frequently found in a particular remedy, the confidence rating will increase, but not its degree.
Now, with this new concept of applying a confidence value to each entry / addition in the repertory, we have for the first time in homeopathic history solved the dilemma between the demand for quantity and the utmost importance of quality.
This advancement in repertory technology will enable you to work with Synthesis at the level of quantity or quality you desire, from a Synthesis which offers the most abundant quantity to a Synthesis which respects your most explicit demand for top quality.
Synthesis is now able to include the research of all contemporary homeopaths, all provings, and clinical information from the full spectrum of homeopathic thought. At the same time, Synthesis is the only repertory that really protects and values our most fundamental principles.
With the Confidence Rating, the contemporary homeopath has, for the first time, the flexibility needed to expand the repertory and maintain the integrity of our great healing art.
"It is a wonderful idea to have the ability in Synthesis to include these "questionable" remedies and rubrics and let the RADAR user decide when and if to include this new information."
