I consider myself somewhat of a computer dinosaur, but I recently installed RADAR on my new Mac, and the transition has been almost seamless! RADAR runs smoothly and allows me the freedom to take my Mac on the road without having to purchase another software program.

Do you own one of the new Macs with the Intel Duo Core processor?
If so, you can now use RADAR without switching to a PC!
Note: For those "ROAMers" who already enjoy RADAR on a Mac, here's a PDF document full of Tips for the Mac user (1.4MB, 25 March 2009).
Does My Mac Have an Intel Duo Core Processor?
The Mac with Intel Duo Core processor was introduced in 2006. The MacBook® and MacBook Pro use the Intel Duo Core Processor — the PowerMac® and older G3/G4 computers do not.
If you're not sure, turn on your computer, click the blue apple at the top left of the screen, and then choose 'About this Mac'. 'Processor information' tells if yours is a Mac with Intel Duo Core processor.
Setting Up a Virtual Machine (VM)
Before you begin using any Windows-based software on your Mac with Intel Duo Core processor, you'll first need to set up a Virtual Machine, essentially a computer-within-a-computer.
This involves purchasing and installing additional software. If you're not very, very comfortable with computers, we suggest using the services of a certified Mac tech to setup your Virtual Machine, and install & update the Windows XP operating system.
We are very happy to assist you in the loading of your RADAR software once you have your 'Virtual Machine' and Windows on your computer!
What Will I Need to Purchase?
In addition to your Mac with Intel Duo Core processor, there are 3 things you and your tech will need to prepare for installing RADAR & EH. You may wish to discuss these purchases in advance with your tech.
- Virtual Machine (VM) software. See Virtual Machine Choices below for discussion of the three options. Our users report that VM-Ware Fusion is the best 'fit' for RADAR and EH.
- Microsoft Windows, XP Home or Pro Edition
- Internet access for your new Virtual Machine
(or use your existing service) - (Optional) 2-button mouse
Virtual Machine Installation & Setup
We've gained quite a bit of experience with RADAR owners who enjoy using our software on their Macs with Intel Duo Core processors.
We recommend you seek qualified technical help with this setup if you don't feel comfortable with software installation and configuration (see the technical information below).
Using RADAR on a Mac is great. It is easy, fast and has really been a good experience. I like having two computers in one. I find that with my mouse, using RADAR on my Mac is just the same as when I used a PC.

Virtual Machine Choices
VMware (Fusion)
vmware.com/products/fusion/screens.html
List Price: $79.99
Trial Download: vmware.com/tryvmware/?eval=fusion
Comments: First choice for RADAR & EH Users; uses both processors in dual core machine; adds the potential to improve speed.
System Requirements:
- Minimum 512MB RAM; recommended 1 GB or more
(We recommend 2-4 GB RAM, & devoting half to your VM) - 275MB disk space for VMware Fusion
- 1GB disk space (minimum) for each virtual machine
(We recommend 20GB for your VM) - Mac OS X, version 10.4.9 or higher
Parallels
If you already own Parallels, you are encouraged to try running RADAR software. Many users have found this solution to be effective. However, other users have found challenges on their particular system.
If you are purchasing VM software for the first time, we recommend that you purchase Fusion (above) rather than Parallels. It has proven to be the most satisfactory choice for RADAR users.
Comments: Parallels advantage over Boot Camp is that Windows XP is running into a window. This allows you to switch between Mac & VM applications without rebooting.
System Requirements:
- Minimum 119 MB disk space for Parallels Desktop
- Minimum 1GB RAM
(We recommend 2-4 GB RAM, & devoting half to your VM) - Minimum 15 GB disk space for virtual machine.
(We recommend 20GB) - Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or higher
Boot Camp
apple.com/macosx/features/bootcamp.html
List Price: Included with Leopard OS (10.5), or purchase for Tiger
Comments: With Boot Camp you must reboot your computer to switch from Mac to PC operation. Many people who try to run RADAR software with Boot Camp have found this configuration problematic.
Boot Camp creates a permanent partition on Mac hard drive, which cannot be removed except by reformatting. This partitioned drive space cannot be used by the Mac operating system.
System Requirements:
- Mac OS X version 10.4.x or higher
Virtual Machine and Windows Software Settings
These are the minimum requirements for running a Virtual Machine on your dual-core Mac. We have noted where our recommendations are higher for the best functioning of RADAR & EH software.
- VM RAM*: Minimum 512K
1GB recommended for smooth operation of all programs on the VM. - VM Hard Disk: Minimum 20 GB
VM software may default to a smaller hard drive space on installation.Watch this setting during the installation process. - USB Port: Enable auto connect
Auto-connect is needed when you are plugging in a mouse, or any other USB device, including the RADAR Software 'key'. - VM Graphics: Minimum 1024 x 768
- Internet: VM must connect to the Internet
An Internet connection is needed for updates to RADAR and other software. - Software Updates: Install the latest version of all software
Be sure to update VM and Windows software via the Internet before loading RADAR & EH.
* Notes on RAM
Total Mac RAM: We recommend a minimum of 1 GB RAM for your Mac, and preferably more. Remember that this RAM is shared by OSX and Windows when your VM is running. With just 1 GB total RAM, 512KB is allotted to each operating system, which may not be enough to run some of the newer Mac or PC software programs. Adding even more RAM will improve operation (e.g., 2GB total RAM allots a full 1GB for each operating system during VM operation.)
Virtual Machine RAM: VM software typically needs 512 KB of RAM, with 1 GB being the recommended amount. This accounts for other Windows applications that may be running alongside RADAR & EH.
Sharing RAM: The Mac OS may share the RAM that is allocated to the VM. Both VMWare Fusion and Parallels have settings that can give priority to Mac OS operations or to VM operations. When the VM is not running, the Mac OS accesses all physical RAM in the computer.
