An In-Depth Look
Part 3
Analysis by Families
Another distinct feature of Encyclopedia Homeopathica (EH) is the ability to analyze your case by families. There are several ways to interpret this family information.
Any family can be included in your search. Take a case of milk intolerance, where you think the remedy is in the umbel family. In the find window type "umbelliferae (family)" then "milk" to find out which remedy of the umbelliferae has the greatest number of symptoms related to milk.
It is important to note that the family is defined by a table of remedies. This is a more precise way to search for the remedies of a family than to rely on the presence of the word in the texts.
Another way to use families: you are looking at an analysis, and you may like the look of a certain remedy, e.g. ph-ac. However you know that remedy was already given, and you want to know which other remedies belong to the same family. Click on the remedy abbreviation and a table opens showing you all the families to which that remedy belongs, e.g. the "acidums". Then click on the button "highlight selected families" and you get a screen where the other acidums of your analysis are highlighted.
Alternately, you may prefer to see only the members of a given family. Suppose in your final analysis the case has a strong miasmatic tendency towards syphilis, and therefore your remedy should also be anti-syphilitic in nature. As in the previous screen, you click again on the abbreviation ph-ac. The table with families opens and now you select "syphilis" and click on "Limit to selected families". In the graph, only the remedies containing anti-syphilitic remedies are shown.
The software has narrowed your search from 325 remedies down to 74 remedies.
The next possibility is that you have some symptom(s), and you want to know which family encompasses to most the related remedies. Say you search for "king" and its synonyms (sovereign, monarch, etc). In the analysis screen you have the "analysis by family" icon. This shows a pie chart for the selected family, for example the Periodic Table. The pie chart shows the most represented family in this case is the aurum series.
Currently EH supports eleven different families analysis modes.
- Bowel Nosode related remedies
- Boyd
- Dorcsi
- Five Elements
- Kingdoms
- Miasms
- Nosodes
- Periodic Table
- Sarcodes
- States of Matter
- Teste
Nine different family analyses can be displayed on the same screen at any one time. A few mouse clicks is all it takes to change your family analysis strategy on the fly.
Finally, a few more options
Every window is user definable. This In-Depth Look has been using two examples of the "Web-Look" window, set for different preferences.
The whole theme of the interface itself is changeable. By default it is set to "Bureau", the one used in this demo. However, you can also switch to "Study" or to "Aqua".
All of this attention to detail guarantees that you will find working with EH a pleasure. You will consistently find that EH offers you a fast, accurate and beautiful response to your searches.
