An In-Depth Look

When you first open the program you are greeted with the welcome screen.  The attractive background picture and the specially designed buttons indicate the first important feature of Encyclopedia Homeopathica: no effort was spared in creating a beautiful and intuitive user interface.

With the four buttons on the right you can find information within EH.  Searches may be performed specifically for Remedies, Pathologies, Cases or done in Full Search mode.  The lower series of buttons let the user switch to Radar, WinCHIP, General Help or Quit the Program.  This vast software database has such a superbly detailed structure that it allows you to easily retrieve the information you want with a minimum of effort.

Read on for further examples!!

Search by Remedies
If you click on the button "Remedies", you see a list of thousands of different remedies. This list gives you instantaneous access to all the Materia Medica chapters for that remedy in more than 615 volumes.

It only takes one more double-click on for example "absinthium" and you read the first line of Materia Medica for that remedy.  By viewing the screen in the "web look" mode, you are presented with three key windows.  The first window offers a list of authors where Materia Medica is described (the table of contents).  Second, you are given the title window, which tells you precisely which reference you are viewing.  Third, the main window presents you with with the full text.

Using the web-look window it is very simple to navigate from one book to another. When you click on another book in the list of authors, the information in the title and text windows changes instantaneously.

The web-look window combines two different ways to view the information. You can read the table of contents, which is the alphabetical list of books. The number of relevant symptoms precedes each book. If you click on a book, the structure of the database reveals itself. You can also look at the document itself, with the complete text. It is very interesting to see that, in this view, you can read the text, line after line exactly as it is in the original. You can read the whole book as such on your computer if you so wish!

Search for Pathologies
From the welcome screen, you have the same easy access to information about pathologies. If you want to study the therapeutics of a certain condition, click on the Pathologies button. You get a list with more than 3,500 entries. In your search you can define your search words exactly, or use wildcards, e.g.: "*prostate"

Search By Cases
The third search possibility in EH is to search for cases. Isn't a real case often the best way to learn about the remedy: with a practical example?

As you click on the Cases button in the Welcome screen, you get to a list of cases. Sort by remedy or by pathology. Double-click on a remedy or a pathology to see the relevant cases, e.g. for aletris farinosa.  In this example, we see the case presented in the "document" view mode.

Full Search Capabilities
Finally there is the "Full Search" button, which opens every conceivable way to search for information. Even though this includes very sophisticated search possibilities, great care has been taken to make every part of the program easy to use. In fact, all you need to do is to type one word in the "find window". The program immediately shows you exactly what it will search for in the lower part of the screen.

Of course there are many more search possibilities than just to search for one word, a click of the mouse offers context sensitive menus. You can enter two or more words and define the distance between them. You may want to search for "high fever", but only when these words follow each other.

Perhaps a more complex search is in order,  EH can perform that search in a number of different ways.  EH has the ability to search for: an Expression; Words within the Same Sentence or Paragraph; Words within x # of Words; Words in Ordered Search; Families of Remedies; Words ending or beginning with Specific Characters or Words containing a Specific String of characters.

Based upon your inquiries, EH can graph the results of your search as a bar chart with remedies along the base.  These features make Encyclopedia Homeopathica a powerful tool for today's homeopath.
