Homeopathy in Ukraine

Homeopathy in the Ukraine

Development of homeopathy in the Ukraine is closely related with the spread of homeopathy in Russia. Homeopathy was under the patronage of Grand Dukes Konstantin Pavlovich and Michail Pavlovich, Emperor Nikolas I, his daughter Olga Nikolaevna, Queen of Wurtemberg.

The peculiarity of development of homeopathy in the Ukraine in the 19th century was that homeopaths were supported by the most prominent men of that period. Societies of Followers of Homeopathy were founded in Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa, Poltava, and Chernigov. There were hospitals in Kiev and Kharkov, and many pharmacies. The Kiev Society of Followers of Homeopathy was formed in 1891.

Historic events in Russia had an unfavorable effect on the further development of homeopathy. Mass repressions of the 1930s and World War II resulted in discontinuance of the Societies. However, homeopaths remained in all the cities of the Ukraine.

The new stage of homeopathic development began in 1985, when Dr. N. K. Bulach opened The Homeopathic Department in Kharkov, and the Homeopathic Society of Kharkov was formed by Dr. V. D. Karamyshev. The Centre of Homeopathy was formed in Kiev by Dr. T .D. Popova. Development of homeopathy has been supported by the Ministry of Public Health of the Ukraine. Postgraduate teaching in homeopathic medicine was started in Kiev and Kharkov in 1990-92. The country is represented in the LMHI.
