Not long after graduating from Cornell University in 1976 with a degree in Asian language and philosophy, Julian Jonas encountered a slim book entitled Homeopathy: Medicine of the New Man by George Vithoulkas. It was such a striking exposition of this true healing art, that he promptly wrote the author to ask permission to study directly with him in Greece.
Little did he know that his request was directed toward perhaps the greatest homeopath of our generation. The reply came several months later. Under current medical law in Greece, it was only possible to train licensed medical doctors.
Instead, Jonas traveled to the East where for ten years he was immersed in the study and practice of Oriental Medicine. Graduating from the Meiji College of Oriental Medicine of Osaka, Japan four years later, he apprenticed with a senior practitioner in Japan. Subsequently, he opened his own clinic in an adjoining rural township.
In 1984, he created and ran a village health project under the auspices of the Department of Indigenous Medicine in Sri Lanka. Returning to the United States in 1986, Julian never forgot his first impressions of the inherent sense and profundity of homeopathy. He was surprised to see how the homeopathic movement had arisen from the ashes in the United States.
Since that time, he has found many opportunities to pursue his interest in homeopathy on a professional level. He is a graduate of New England School of Homeopathy's professional course, where he has also done clinical training. He has also had supervision with Ananda Zaren and has studied with Lou Klein, Jayesh Shah, and Massimo Mangialavori.
Currently, Julian has a private practice in Saxtons River, Vermont where he lives with his wife, Kazuko and their two children. He also is on the staff of the outpatient clinic at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, VT. Certified in classical homeopathy and by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture, his previous teaching experience includes the New England School of Acupuncture and the New England School of Homeopathy. Julian has been on the faculty of Teleosis since 1998.
