From the Book
Foreward by Dr. Frederik Shroyens:
Although snakes were not among Hahnemann's first proven remedies, they were introduced soon afterwards and have put a spell on many homeopaths ever since. Who does not recall the intriguing story of Kent with Lachesis and the most heroic proving of the same by Hering?
With this book, Dr. Farokh Master adds a lot to that fascination. The book gives a perfect summary of our present knowledge about the snakes and the information added from the provings. It also meticulously prepares a homeopath for the future expansion of this knowledge.
The list of snake remedies included in the book is very complete as it not only contains the few snakes we use frequently, buy also offers the most recent information from Dr. Farokh's provings of snake remedies, such as Toxicophis pugnas, Bungaris fasciatus, Cerastes cerastes, and Clotho arietans, about which there is not much literature available
The first eight chapters of the book offer a deep understanding of the snakes from all angles which is the basic requirement for moving on to understand the snake remedies. In chapter 9, the possible family characteristics are presented in a very practical way, each time linking them with related repertory rubrics.
A full chapter has been written on each snake in which a lot of information regarding different aspects of the snake remedy have been well documented. As in his other books, Dr. Farokh indicates bulleted Bedside Guiding Symptoms which give a quick and relevant reference to the most interesting symptoms.
Then there are other little touches which make the book stand out:
- The full proving diaries are included for detailed study of how the drug picture was formed.
- Some short case summaries as well as some more explicit cases are included.
- Some differential Materia Medica, as for example between Lachesis and Elaps or even between Naja and Aurum met., which is of utmost practical utility.
All these ingredients make this book a very interesting work for the homeopath who wants to thoroughly study one snake or all snakes, as well as for the one who needs a quick reference during daily work. A fascinating book about a fascinating topic!

This book is a thoroughly researched, comprehensive work, which will serve well as both a study text and practical prescribing aide. The first chapters cover snake anatomy, taxonomy, and snake mythology and symbolism. A chapter on the group symptoms of the snake remedies as derived from the repertory is included. There are individual chapters on each snake remedy, many of which include cases, provings, and even complete proving diaries. There are clinical prescribing hints and remedy differentials included throughout the text, which will prove extremely useful when considering a ‘snake’ prescription. Bulleted "Bedside Guiding Symptoms" give a quick and relevant reference to the most interesting symptoms for each remedy. Finally, the appendix offers an alphabetical quick reference to clinical symptoms with remedy differentials. This book will be appreciated by busy practitioners and students alike.Author
