The Foundation of the Chronic Miasms in the Practice of Homeopathy

In 1994 when Henny Heudens-Mast first came to teach in the US, no one was talking about the importance of "miasms" — no one was teaching from a miasmatic perspective and surely no one knew the depth of what Henny meant to spark in each of her students when she went to her white board and drew pictures of three different types of warts, each classifiable by its miasmatic characteristics.

So innocent, she turned to her class, saw their eyes wide in excited amazement, and asked, "This is interesting to you?"

To some in that class what Henny had said about miasms was not interesting. To some it was the single most influential day in their homeopathic study to date, a light offering a clearer and more complete understanding of the nature of disease and the power of the individual vital force to express itself. And they could not shake loose of Henny, or her tenacious pursuit of Hahnemann's Paragraph 2, "rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health according to clearly realizable principles."

The journey had begun.

Our original purpose in setting these ideas to paper was simple. We thought to provide a basic context in which newcomers to the miasms, to miasmatic understanding, and case management could begin their study.

A pamphlet perhaps, a basic outline that would give any who chose to attend one of Henny's seminars enough of an understanding of miasms that they would not be lost when she got to the part in case analysis where she lifted the pen to the white board again and began her diagrammatic classification of each symptom according to its miasmatic influence within the patient; when she asked the class to differentiate each possible remedy miasmatically; when she asked students to support their prescription decision — why a remedy from this miasm now, and what to expect from this prescription.

And the journey continues.

Henny Heudens-Mast

Henny Heudens-Mast has practiced Classical Homeopathy for more than 30 years. Her worldwide reputation as a gifted homeopathic healer is well deserved, and she maintains a busy practice.

A diplomate of the Netherlands College for Naturopathie, she was chairwoman of the Society for the Promotion of Homeopathy in Belgium for ten years.

She has served as a board member and officer of the European Council for Clasical Homeopathy and is currently chairwoman and director of Studiecentrum voor Homeopathie v.z.w.in Leuven, Belgium.

An honored member of the Swedish Academy for Classical Homeopathy, Henny teaches regularly in the US, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium.

Currently she is assisting in the development of a school for educating homeopathic teachers in Germany. Her commitment to teaching Classical Homeopathy is unparalled.
